Decolonize your Reiki Practice
In this course, I will share with you the principles of decolonization and how they apply to the practice and business of Reiki.
Together, let’s explore what it means to decolonize Reiki — honoring it’s Japanese origins, recognizing the impact of systemic oppression in spiritual communities and cultivating a new relationship with Reiki rooted in integrity, respect and inclusivity.
What is Decolonization?
Decolonization is movement within society, academia and spiritual traditions involves dismantling oppressive structures, reclaiming cultural identity, and restoring autonomy to marginalized communities.
It encourages us to remember the history of colonialism & racism and how that has left an enduring impact on both society and the trajectories of people’s lives. (Source: Dalal A Contemplative Approach to Dismantling Cultural Appropriation)
Decolonization invites us to reflect on how concepts of race, gender and power show up in spiritual communities, specifically Reiki, without assuming that it doesn't.
Decolonization of Reiki at the Reiki Healing Society refers to re-centering the history, method and understanding of Reiki back to a Japanese worldview.
Invest in this workshop to learn:
🔥 The legacy of cultural appropriation in Reiki - despite the good intentions of Reiki practitioners
🔥 The intersection of Reiki, race and power - how systems of oppression shape spiritual communities and healing practices
🔥 Spiritual and cultural appropriation in Reiki - what it looks like and how to approach the practice with greater cultural integrity
🔥 Being an anti-racist Reiki practitioner - increasing diversity, inclusivity of the system of Reiki to marginalized and oppressed communities
🔥 Resources and strategies for a decolonized Reiki practice - tools for lifelong learning, un-learning and embodiment
Together we will explore how decolonization can support us to be better stewards of Reiki for the benefit of our own spiritual practice, the wider Reiki community and future generations of Reiki practitioners.
Decolonization is ultimately about how powerful it is to seek to understand, apologize when we got it wrong, change and grow. As Western practitioners of a Japanese healing art we now have the resources to do better. So let’s do that!
